Amusing things to do if you live in a small town

Several years have gone by where in the moment that my friends and I want to get together in my hometown, we always have to face the same question over and over again: what in the world are we gonna do? And then of course we all cringe because honestly, what is there to do? Where we are, there's the movie theater, bowling alley and the seasonal corn maze, but that's about it. But now that I have come to think about it, maybe we're just boring adults now. When did we stop coming up with riveting things to do on a whim and most of all, when did we start calling playdates "hanging out?" Ew. So after some careful thinking, I have come to the conclusion that it's our own fault that we're bored because there are LOTS of things to do, especially if you dust off your musty old brain that forgot how to have fun.
♡ ♡ ♡
1. Outdoor hide and seek
This was like the most fun I ever had as a kid and now that you're older, it's safer to do it at night.
2. PowerPoint night
I got this idea from TikTok, but basically each person creates and presents a PowerPoint on literally whatever they want. It could be hilarious, it could be informational, it could be literally anything. Also, it's no pressure because it's your friends, so it's just FUN.
3. Conduct a science experiment
Throw some Mentos in a soda bottle, make a tornado in a bottle, make some rock candy or just blow something up. It's up to you.
4. Go camping in your backyard
This makes me so excited just thinking about it oh my gosh. Setting up a tent, telling spooky stories, stargazing, maybe making a backyard firepit and roasting marshmallows, having hot chocolate and cup noodles... I mean the list just goes on and on.
5. Play board games
Yes, obviously people still do this but truly they are so fun. I love the ones that aren't super strategy related because those just make me feel dumb so I love to pull out Life, Cranium, Twister, Clue, Operation, Uno and all that fun stuff. A few months ago, a friend and I played this super old Barbie game and it was just incredible. 10/10
6. Design a treasure hunt
This could happen in your backyard, around town, literally wherever!
7. Learn magic tricks and do a show
Do you even know any magic tricks off the top of your head? If you do, be honest, are they that good? So now is your opportunity to grow as well as share your new amazing gift. Plus afterwards, now you know you're gonna be the life of the party.
8. Plan a spa day at someone's place
Bath robes, cucumbers, smoothies, essential oils, towels, face masks, nail polish, the whole deal. We're taking wellness to a whole new level.
9. Dress to the nines and have a fancy tea party
Now the nines can be whatever you think the nines should be, but I like to imagine it being wildly extravagant. Like what if I pulled out my old prom dress because I mean when else am I going to wear it? Also, you can make those fancy little sandwiches to go with your tea too so you really know it's legitimate.
10. Teach a trick to one of your pets
This of course requires a lot of patience, but it can be so much fun to try to do with someone else! Besides, you can really put to test the idea that old dogs can't learn new tricks.
11. Learn to juggle
Unless of course you already know how which really is the ultimate flex.
12. Write, direct, and film a movie
Never once did I attempt to do this as a kid and I regret this every day of my life. Now is your time to shine. Just think, you could make a documentary, a drama, a musical, or even a reality show. The options are unlimited.
13. Build an enormous fort
Imagine: you could make it go all through the house and you can make the design as complex or as beautiful as you want. I believe that building a fort is the ultimate segway to happiness.
14. Fashion Show
Pull out ALL of your best fits, make a catwalk, pull out fans for the full hair effect, put on some RuPaul and just go. The ultimate confidence booster and source of entertainment for basically everyone.
15. Build a race course for bugs
But also remember to take care of them because you can give them some old veggies and a little bottle cap of water if they drink that way. Anyways though, you can build them one with anything you have around the house and it is just wild to watch them go.
16. Look for four leaf clovers around town
Have you ever found one? I know I sure haven't. So there you go, get on it.
17. Have an elaborate movie night
Have a theme, popcorn, a bunch of candy, soda, blankets, everything. You could have it outside on a projector and have it simultaneously with the backyard camping. Wow.
18. Karaoke
If you don't have a machine, I highly suggest investing in one, but honestly that's fine because there's karaoke videos you can project from YouTube. This is honestly so much fun and it was my favorite thing to do my senior year of high school.
19. Play with crafts
Work with clay, make figurines, paint, do wall décor, bean art, paper mache, birdhouses, whatever your little heart desires.
20. Make a time capsule
Lastly, I had to include this because it's just so cute. This is even more fun with friends, because imagine opening it together again after all the years have passed. You could put in things that relate to inside jokes, photos, souvenirs or tickets from trips you went on, or letters. ☻
